Abstract

Background: Endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolic disorders represent a rapidly expanding area of clinical medicine due to the increasing global burden of obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, adrenal diseases, pituitary dysfunction, metabolic syndrome, and osteoporosis. These conditions are closely associated with cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and reduced quality of life, making early diagnosis and evidence-based management essential.

Objective: This review aims to provide an overview of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic approaches, and contemporary management strategies for common endocrine and metabolic disorders, with emphasis on diabetes mellitus and associated metabolic complications.

Methods: A narrative review of current clinical guidelines, systematic reviews, randomized controlled trials, and observational studies published in peer-reviewed medical literature was undertaken. Relevant evidence was synthesized to summarize advances in diagnostic biomarkers, laboratory evaluation, imaging techniques, pharmacological therapies, and lifestyle interventions applicable to endocrine practice.

Results: Recent advances in endocrinology have significantly improved patient outcomes through personalized treatment strategies, continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pump technologies, incretin-based therapies, sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors, and multidisciplinary lifestyle interventions. Early identification of hormonal abnormalities using biochemical and imaging modalities facilitates timely intervention, reducing disease progression and long-term complications. Integrated management addressing nutrition, physical activity, weight optimization, and cardiovascular risk reduction remains fundamental to improving metabolic health.

Conclusion: Endocrine and metabolic disorders require comprehensive, patient-centered care integrating accurate diagnosis, individualized pharmacotherapy, lifestyle modification, and long-term follow-up. Emerging precision medicine approaches, digital health technologies, and novel therapeutic agents continue to transform endocrine practice, offering improved glycemic control, metabolic regulation, and quality of life. Continued research and implementation of evidence-based clinical guidelines are essential for addressing the growing global burden of endocrine and metabolic diseases.
